The Great Pyramids of Eygpt

In the Valley of the Kings in Giza, Egypt, the forty five hundred year old majestic pyramids form tombs for the ancient Egyptian pharaohs Mycerinus, Chephren and Cheops. In addition to the remains of these rulers, the tombs originally contained everyday items the ancient Egyptians believed the soul would need in the afterlife.

There are about eight pyramids known today out which three are built in Giza. The ‘Great Pyramid’ was built for King Khufu which is well known in the valley.

It was believed that when the pharaoh dies, he becomes an Osiris, king of the dead. The new pharaoh becomes Horus, god of the heavens and protector of the sun god. This cycle was symbolized by the rising and setting of the sun.
