Burhanpur is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh and very close to the borders of Maharashtra of India. This city was founded in the 1400 AD by Nassir Khan and this is the place where Queen Mumtaz the wife of Shah Jahan died.

Once ruled by King Akbar, the city of Burhanpur is now famous for its Muslim monuments, Gurudwara of Sikh Religion, Shahi Hammam, Asigarh and Dargah-e-Hakimi of Bohra community. Burhanpur is internationally famous for its fine cloth manufacturing, Gold-wire drawing and other allied industries and crafts.

Gurudwara
The place is counted as an important pilgrimage of the Khalsa community. The first and the Last Guru, Guru Nanak Devji & Guru Govind Singhji Maharaj of Khalsa community had visited this place. Guru Nanak Devji visited the Gurudwara located at the bank of Tapti river (Rajghat). Guru Nanak Devji also signed on the holy Guru Grantha Sahib.

Ahukhana      
This monument is situated in front of Royal fort in Zainabad. The place was Royal leisure pavilions during the Mughal time. Body of Queen Mumtaj was buried at this place for six months. This is a very good example of Mughal architecture.

Khuni Bhandara
The Mughal rulers constructed 8 systems of water works, which at different times will supply pure water to the city. These water works are fine specimen of unparalleled construction technique of the Mughal engineering and skills which entailed enormous expenditure. They were, probably, constructed for the most part in the reign of Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.



Dargah-e-Hakimi
Dargah-e-Hakimi is situated at Lodhipura village, 2 Kms away from Burhanpur town in the memory of Quamili Saiyyadi & Moula-E-Bava Abdul Quadir Hakimm-ud-din. Thousands of pilgrims of Bohra community visit the place from all over the world. Other mazar are of roz-e-mubarak 41 and da-el mutallak  Saiyyaddna Abdul Taiyyab Jaqui-ud-din Saheb and wali-ul Murtaj Saiyyadi Sheikh  Jivanji. In the west of this Mazar there is a beautiful mosque and a Haquimi garden.
  
Royal Hammam
The monument was constructed by Shah-Jahan, The Mughal Emperor for his Queen Mumtaz, which located in the Farooqi Fort. In the middle of the monument there is an octagonal bath-place. The bath-place was connected with the water system of Khuni Bhandara. On the ceiling of the monument colorful Mughal Paintings can be seen. There is also a small painting of The Taj Mahal on the ceiling.

Shahi Palace
Shahi Palace is situated at the height of 80 ft. At the beautiful right side of Tapi river, this vast palace was built by Adil Khan II in 1457 to 1503 AD. Once the King Palace was seven storied palace, now it’s remain stories tell its existence, its brick built vast entrance gate is in eastern side from where Tapi river is seen.
 
Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid in Burhanpur was constructed during the Farooqi rule in India. This was constructed by Azam Humayun for his wife and queen Begaum Ruqiaya in the year 1421 and called it as ‘Bibi ki Masjid’.  This was the first Jama Masjid in Burhanpur and famous during that period.
  
Since the population of Burhanpur was increasing, in 1590 ruler Adil Shah built another Jama Masjid in the heart of the city, so that it can be accessible to everyone easily. This Masjid could accommodate 500 people at a time and was completed in the year 1595. Jama Masjid of Burhanpur is an excellent example of Islamic art and architecture, which can be seen on the arches built inside of the Masjid. The Jama Masjid of Burhanpur was built in lines to Jama Masjid of Delhi.
