The Temple of Reclining Buddha


Wat Pho (The Temple of Reclining Buddha) is located behind the splendid Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, completely gold platted. The feet and eyes are engraved with pearls and feet show the 108 auspicious characteristics of true Buddha.



Wat Pho is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok located in Phra Nakhon district. The temple is also known for its birthplace for Thai Massage. Even prior to the temples founding, the site was a center of education for traditional Thai medicine, and statues were created showing yoga positions.
 
 
Temple of the Reclining Buddha is the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Bangkok. It is home to more Buddha images than any other Bangkok temple and it shelters the largest Buddha in Thailand. No doubt the reclining Buddha is the best and worth visiting.

The statue is 3 meters tall and weighs 5.5 tones and made in Sukhothai Dynasty style, and is thought to have been made during the Sukhothai period in the 13th century.
