Jama Masjid in Burhanpur

Jama Masjid in Burhanpur was constructed during the Farooqi rule in India. This was constructed by Azam Humayun for his wife and queen Begaum Ruqiaya in the year 1421 and called it as‘Bibi ki Masjid’. This was the first Jama Masjid in Burhanpur and famous during that period.

Since the population of Burhanpur was increasing, in 1590 ruler Adil Shah built another Jama Masjid in the heart of the city, so that it can be accessible to everyone easily. This Masjid could accommodate 500 people at a time and was completed in the year 1595. Jama Masjid of Burhanpur is an excellent example of Islamic art and architecture, which can be seen on the arches built inside of the Masjid.

The Jama Masjid of Burhanpur was built inlines to Jama Masjid of Delhi.
