Roam Free India

Roaming charges will no longer be charged starting from next year according to Communication Minster Kapil Sabal. This is a good news for the subscribers as they would no longer be paying high charges for calls and smses but bad for telecom companies as they would need to do major changes in policies and infrastructure.

Does this mean tariff’s will get increased; yes there are chances that it can happen. I think this decision will not impact much as the revenue from roaming usage is only 10% of any Telco company. With modern days apps available in bundle in the market like Skype, Tango, Nimbuzz etc... I hardly find people using Local, STD and ISD calling services these days.

Modern day smart phones which are available these days at a very cheap price with free applications like Skype, Tango or Whtsapp consumer would prepare to make calls through these services which provide unlimited usage. But to use these services you require a Data plan which is available at very cheap rate in India. Currently 3G services are very good but costly compared to 2G services.

I m currently using 2G service and able to make international and national calls through Tango and Skype easily, sound and video quality is excellent.
